Pepper Weather does not sell or share your data for any reason beyond what’s necessary to run the app
Pepper Weather is built so that your data stays yours. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for any reason beyond what’s necessary to provide the app’s features.
Location & Weather Data
Pepper Weather may ask for permission to access your current location so it can show localized weather forecasts. Granting access is optional but recommended for the best experience, and it can be turned off at any time in your device’s settings.
When you use the app, your location is sent to Apple’s WeatherKit service to retrieve weather data. This exchange is handled directly by Apple and is subject to Apple’s own privacy practices.
If you have a Premium Plus subscription and view the Air Quality section, an approximate version of your location — rounded to roughly a 10 kilometer area — is sent to our backend service, hosted on Google Firebase, and forwarded to Google’s Air Quality API to retrieve air quality data for your area. This exchange is used solely to display air quality information within the app and is not sold or shared for any reason beyond what’s necessary to provide that feature.
Severe Weather Alert Notifications
If you turn on Severe Weather Alerts for one or more of your saved locations from the Notifications screen, an approximate version of each of those locations’ coordinates — rounded to roughly one square kilometer, precise enough to identify weather alert areas but not the exact address — is sent to and stored by our backend service, hosted on Google Firebase, along with a device notification token. This lets us check for active severe weather alerts for those locations on your behalf and notify you even when the app isn’t open. You can turn this on independently for each of your saved locations.
This data is only collected for locations where the feature is turned on. Turning it off for a location deletes that location’s stored data immediately, and any location’s data is also automatically deleted after 30 days if you haven’t opened the app to reconfirm it’s still in use. It is never sold or shared for any reason beyond what’s necessary to deliver severe weather alert notifications to your device.
Next-Hour Precipitation Notifications
If you have a Premium Plus subscription and turn on Next-Hour Precipitation Notifications for one or more of your saved locations from the Notifications screen, an approximate version of each of those locations’ coordinates — rounded to roughly one square kilometer, precise enough to forecast precipitation for that area but not the exact address — is sent to and stored by our backend service, hosted on Google Firebase, along with a device notification token. This lets us check the minute-by-minute forecast for those locations every 5 minutes and notify you when rain or snow is about to start, even when the app isn’t open.
It is never sold or shared for any reason beyond what’s necessary to deliver precipitation notifications to your device.
Data Stored On Your Device
Favorite locations, unit preferences, and other app settings are saved locally on your device. If you use Pepper Weather’s widgets, this same data is shared securely between the app and its widgets using Apple’s App Group storage. This data stays on your device and is not accessible to anyone but you, except where noted elsewhere in this policy — for example, if you enable Severe Weather Alerts or Next-Hour Precipitation Notifications for one of your saved locations, that location is also sent to our backend as described above.
Purchases & Subscriptions
Subscription purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. Pepper Weather does not collect, store, or have access to your payment information.
Analytics & Crash Reports
Pepper Weather may collect anonymized reports for crash analytics using Apple Analytics. Any anonymous information is only collected to help improve the app and is never shared for any reason beyond that purpose.
